Jiri Everest Base Camp Trekking is significant as it holds the historical legacy of legends that treaded this trekking trail for the first time to reach the ultimate summit of Mount Everest. Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay Sherpa followed the trail to the iconic Everest. A classical trail still followed by quite a few mountaineers till date. This trekking trail is quite appealing as it the trail is peaceful and less crowded with beautiful mountains all along the trail, combined with rivers, streams and indigenous culture rich villages. Jiri Everest Base Camp Trekking route offers ample opportunities to visit dozens of Buddhist monasteries, ethnic lively villages representing mountain lifestyles give a monumental experience while trailing this historical region for trekking.

Jiri Everest Base Camp Trekking starts upon arrival to Kathmandu, after a short briefing we go around the city of Kathmandu and prepare for the journey the following day. Next day after, a long drive of 8-9 hours through the Araniko highway all along the way a pleasant presence of wonderful views of Ganesh Himal and Langtang peaks to the north justifies the long drive to be noteworthy. The next day the actual trail starts and leads us to the following places of Shivalaya, Bahandar, Set, Nunthala, Bupsa, Ghat and Junbesi. After leaving junbesi the trails comes to life and surprises you with its opening around of sudden panorama of huge mountains ahead; with a short preview of Everest, Lhotse, Kusum, Kangguru, Thamserku, Kangtega and Makalu, is inviting and teasing. After having been excitedly evoked by the time we realize and relish upon these spectacles we unknowingly charmed by this wonder land into the historical Sherpa settlements of Namche Bazaar. While walking along the trail we enjoy Sherpa villages its colorful lifestyles, legendary Buddhist monasteries where the spirituality and serenity of the Tibetan Buddhism is still relevant and co-exist in the Himalayas. After having soaked up all the energy while getting a first hand views and insights acclimatization becomes and important order of the day. The following day we head towards our final juncture of this classical trip enroute to reach up the base camp of the world’s highest peak along the popular vantage aerial viewpoint of Kala Patthar a stunning location where each glance is panoramic in all directions and then back down to Tengboche monastery. Having satisfactorily achieved the desired destination we head back towards Lukla for a return flight to Kathmandu.

Day to Day Itinerary

Day 1 Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu. Overnight at hotel in Kathmandu

Your arrival to the International Airport at Kathmandu, you will be met by our Airport Representative (office staff), and transfer to hotel. Overnight at hotel in Kathmandu

Day 2 Day 02: Kathmandu Valley Sightseeing. Overnight at Hotel in Kathmandu

After breakfast proceed your trip to visit the historical and cultural places of Kathmandu. Visit: Pashupatinath Temple, Swyambhunath Stupa, Bouddhanath Stupa, Kathmandu Durbar Square.

Day 3 Day 03: Kathmandu to Jiri by Car and trek to Shivalaya (1790m). Overnight at Tea House/Lodge

Today our private vehicle will pick up you from your hotel and then head towards the trek starting point of ours. It takes about 10 hours drive from Kathmandu to get to Sivalaya via Jiri which is the actual trekking point for one of the best Everest Trek. Overnight at Tea House/Lodge.

Day 4 Day 04: Shivalay to Kinja (1630m). Overnight at Tea House/Lodge

Early in the morning after breakfast we begin our trek. We head up the hill and throughout the way we can enjoy the magnificent view of the mountains, meet local people on the way. We reach Deurali after walking for few hours and from there we descend to Bhandar and again to continue to descend until we reach Kinja. Today we trek for about 5 to 6 hrs. Overnight at Kinja

Day 5 Day 05: Kinja to Junbesi (2700m). Overnight at Tea House/Lodge

After Breakfast we start our trek today. Our destination is Junbesi which lies at an altitude of 2700m. We trek about 6/7 hours today and the trek starts by walking up the hill and also follow the snow covered mountains. The trail on which we follow today goes through farming land, village all the way to Lamjura pass. After a short break here we head for Junbesi. Night stay at Junbesi.

Day 6 Day 06: Junbesi to Nunthala (2220m). Overnight at Tea House/Lodge

Today we head toward Nunthala. We follow the trail where we cross the Junbesi Khola on a wooden bridge and just beyond the bridge there we find a trail junction as well. The route to Khumbu follows the left-hand trail that leads uphill. This trail turns north, descending through Salung. From here, Mt. Everest can be seen on a clear day towards north east. We then follow the shepherd huts in the route and also the hidden route in dense forest.

Day 7 Day 07: Nhuntala to Bupsa (2360m). Overnight at Tea House/Lodge

After breakfast early in the morning we begin our todays trip. We follow one of the well known path too Bupsa. From here-Nunthala the path descent which continues to the Dudh Koshi Khola (River) Bridge and the trail also lead through terraced fields and yards of houses. Then we walk contuniously until we reach the Rai community village of Jubing. After a short break we head to the path with a slow climb to the village around the ridge and continue our journey to the village of Khari Khola to pusj o up to the steep hill to get to Bupsa.

Day 8 Day 08: Bupsa to Surke (2290m). Overnight at Tea House/Lodge

Today, we leave Bupsa after an early breakfast and continue through a forest passing Kharte. We then take an uphill climb from Kharte crossing Khari La Pass. Throughout the way you can enjoy the magnificent views of Khari La Pass of Gyachung Kang and other mountains.

Day 9 Day 09: Surke to Phakding (2610m). Overnight at Tea House/Lodge

We have our Breakfast in the morning at the lodge and head to our next trek point Phadking. It takes us about 5 hours today to reach Phakding from Surke. The trail today we follow climbes towards Chaurikharka and then move up to Chhiplung and then down to Phakding. Overnight at Phakding today.

Day 10 Day 10: Phakding to Namche bazaar (3440m). Overnight at Tea House/Lodge

After breakfast we start walk to Namche Bazaar first thing in the morning. At about half-way up the hill, a gap in the trees allow us to spy Everest for the first time. If the weather is clear the top of the South-West Face will be just visible behind the long Lhotse-Nuptse ridge. A plume can often be seen stretching away from the very summit.

Namche is the most prosperous and the largest town in the Khumbu. A bazaar is held here every Saturday. The wares on display include meat, grains and vegetables, tennis shoes and trinkets as well as hand woven aprons and Tibetan boots. The Sherpas play host to trader from the foothills, as well as Tibetans from over the border. Thamserku (6648m), Kwangde Ri (6187m) and Khumbila (5707m) surround the natural bowl that Namche sits in.

Day 11 Day 11: Rest in Namche Bazaar/ Excursion Namche Bazaar. Overnight at Tea House/Lodge

We take the day off to allow our bodies to adjust to the rarefied atmosphere before ascending to higher altitudes. The secret of safe acclimatization is to ‘climb high, sleep low’ so it is safe for the more energetic amongst us to hike up the hill behind Namche to the airstrip at Syangboche, or stroll across to the museum behind the police post. Others may prefer to ‘chill out’ and visit one of the lodges for a freshly-baked cinnamon roll. Namche is a busy and bustling trading place and there is always plenty going on.

Day 12 Day 12: Namche Bazar to Tyangboche (3,860m). Overnight at Tea House/Lodge

After Breakfast we begin our day with a short hard climb to get to the ridge and walk towards Kyanjua. On the way you can have a breathtaking view of Highest Mountain in the world Mt. Everest, Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Nuptse, Mt. Ama Dablam, Thamserku, Kondge and many more mountains. The trail on which we will be following today descends to Fungi Tanga then ascends to Tyangboche through the forest. You can visit the Tyangboche monastery in the evening time and stay overnight at the hotel.

Day 13 Day 13: Tyangboche to Dingboche (4300m). Overnight at Tea House/Lodge

The trail which leads us to Dingboche today descends down from Tyangboche and through the Rhododendron forest to Dingboche. On the way we cross a bridge over the raging River- Imja Khola (River). Dingboche is also known as the gateway to Chukung. Night halt at Dingboche

Day 14 Day 14: Dingboche to Lobuche (4,900m). Overnight at Tea House/Lodge

After Breakfast we follow the trail where the steep incline to the terminal moraine of the Khumbu glacier, continuing along the rugged route to Lobuche. In the evening you can go and visit the village areas. Overnight at Lobuche.

Day 15 Day 15: Lobuche to Gorakshep (5170m) to EBC (5364m) and back to Gorakshep. Overnight at Tea House/Lodge

Today is one of the difficult day to trek along the Khumbu Glacier and up to the Everest Base Camp. You can get the closest view of Mount Everest from Khumbu Glacier and Everest Base Camp. After spending little time at the Camp, we head back to Gorakshep. Overnight at Ghorakshep

Day 16 Day 16: Gorakshep to Kalapatthar (5545m) to Pheriche (4280m). Overnight at Tea House/Lodge

We have breakfast early in the morning and start our trek early as well. Today’s trek is going to be difficult yet rewarding one. We head towards Kalapatthar which is one of the best viewpoint of the Mount Everest. You can view amazing views of the mountain range from here. After spending some time here we head back to Pheriche. We stay overnight at a lodge.

Day 17 Day 17: Pheriche to Tyangboche to Namche Bazaar (3440m). Overnight at Tea House/Lodge

Today from Pheriche, we follow the trail to Tyangboche and from there we head towards Namche. On the way you can explore the oldest monastery in the region. It is also said that the monastery contains the scalp and bones of the abominable snowman also known as Yeti. After visiting the place we leave and follow the trail until we reach Namche. We stay at Namche today.

Day 18 Day 18: Namche Bazaar to Lukla. Overnight at Tea House/Lodge

Most people head towards Lukla with a heavy heart. There is something very special about the setting, the villages and the people of the high Khumbu hills and valleys and our memories help us up the deceptively long, final climb into Lukla. Our campsite and house are well located and offer a good final resting spot.

Day 19 Day 19: Lukla to Kathmandu by Flight. Overnight at Hotel in Kathmandu

Early Morning flight from Lukla to Kathmandu today. Please note that flights into Lukla are sometimes delayed due to un-flyable conditions either in fog-bound Kathmandu or windy Lukla; be reassured that our staff in Lukla and in Kathmandu will be doing everything possible to minimize the inconvenience caused if this happens. Your patience in the trying circumstances which can occur will be greatly appreciated.

Day 20 Day 20: Final Departure.

Our office representative will come to hotel to pick you up at hotel and then transfer to the Kathmandu international airport for final departure.

  • Nepal entry visa: you can obtain a visa easily upon your arrival at Tribhuwan International Airport in Kathmandu. (a multiple-entry tourist visa good for 30 days can be obtained by paying USD 40 or equivalent foreign currency. Similarly, multiple-entry tourist visas for 90 days can be obtained by paying USD 100. Please bring 2 copies of passport-size photos.).

The airfare to travel from Lukla to Kathmandu is USD 161 per person which is subject to change without the prior notice by the airlines.
