Overview
Dharan and Ilam are two cities located in eastern Nepal, known for their natural beauty and cultural diversity. Dharan is renowned as a contemporary urban center with clean streets and well-developed infrastructures, setting a standard across the nation. Here, the fusion of Hindu and Buddhist culture with modernity is palpable, evident in sacred places such as Budha Subba, Pindeshwor, and Dantakali. Dharan also serves as a gateway to the hill station of Bhedetar, the religious site of Barahachetra, and the renowned Namaste Jharna waterfall. One cannot overlook the distinctive characteristic of Dharan—the striking blue hue over 80 percent of its rooftops—which has earned it the name of, "Blue Roofed City."
Ilam is a municipality located in eastern Nepal, in the Ilam District. With a long history of tea cultivation dating back to the late 19th century during the British colonial era, Ilam has become renowned for its high-quality orthodox tea, which is exported worldwide. The region's tea industry is a major source of employment and revenue for the local population, contributing significantly to its economic development and putting Ilam on the global map. Ilam district has a lot of beautiful places which attract domestic and international tourists equally. Places like Kanyam, Shree Antu, Sandakpur, and Pathibhara Devi pull tourists in large numbers, and rightfully so.
Kanyam is a tea estate, where Nepal’s first tea factory is located. We can explore the tea gardens, taste the locally produced world-renowned tea, and ride horses across the vast acres of tea plantations. Similarly, Shree Antu is the area where the first sunrise of Nepal can be observed, but to witness this, one needs to hike for about half an hour to Antu Danda
